2006 Barboursville Octagon
Oh my my, oh hell yes! Honey put on that party dress!
Need more be said? Sure, this deep red is bold with the dry drop of the Franc that makes it savory. A delicious bottle!

2010 Cameron Hughes Lot 362 California Blend
Not one of Hughes' best. The first night was ok. Second, meh. Down the bottle on opening.

2011 Meritage Lot 383 by Cameron Hughes
Bold and dry, this French lot has that distinctive old world taste. This one has a big fruit flavor, but is a little punchy, so get one and let it sit for a year. Enjoy the much improved structure in 2014!

2012 The Honey Pot by Stellenbosch, South Africa
While dedicated to reds, occasionally I branch out for a promising white wine. "The Honey Pot" I saw and had to try just for the name. Like a true honeypot, however, it led me on with its pretty label, then left me with the lingering taste of sour apple. Disappointing, but truth in advertising.

2011 Santa Julia Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon
Christine, you are a life saver! This saved us from the Cab Franc. Much improved complexity and flavor over the night's prior selection.

2010 Finca La Mata Duero
I asked the wife what she wanted and she said, "Something bold!" Enter Finca la Mata, a fine Spanish Duero. Big and bold like a Cabernet, it finishes with a flourishing zing, like Flamenco. So Spanish! Roses, chocolate, and Finca la Mata makes one happy wife!

2010 La Grande Dame de Chateau Lavagnac Bordeaux Superior
I usually don't go in for Merlot. It's a little fruity for my dry personality. However this masterful blend of Merlot with Cabernet Franc gives that big fruity flavor with a dry smack on the face. I like it!

2008 Quinta de Ventozelo Douro Reserva
This wine was a delight after last night's disaster. Round and bold with a dry finish, this Portugese red had me spellbound after a short decant. Delicious!

2009 Chateau Verriere Bordeaux
When we first opened this bottle, we thought it might be corked from the aroma. Looking over some reviews, we found that some folks mentioned its strong bouquet and recommended decanting it for an hour. We tried decanting, which improved the flavor, but this bottle is clearly past its prime. We ended up dumping the bottle, which we have never done for a Bordeaux. Too bad.
