Dry and gravelly, almost like a Pomerol, but not as breathy. Notes of Cabernet Franc give the wine an earthy undertone. Very enjoyable with a beef dish.

Meadow View Meritage 2011 -Reedy Creek Cellars, TN
Trying the local varietals. This is not a big, bold Meritage that would make it world class, but is still enjoyable. It is light, like a Pinot Noir. Great with the slightly spicy scallops we paired it with.

2011 Barboursville Vineyards Virginia Nebbiolo Reserve
Trying this wine on a whim, we were both surprised at how deep the flavor was for such a light-bodied wine. It looks almost like a dark rosé, almost translucent, but has the flavor palette of its much darker, earthier cousin, the Cabernet Franc. It is almost like a tobacco wine. This Nebbiolo has flavor to stand on its own, yet pairs amazingly well with fish. We have raved about Barboursville's Octagon in the past. This new variety (for us) continues that streak, a pleasant and enjoyable surprise. We look forward to the next one.

2010 La Fleur de Chateau Haut-Piquat
This Saint-Emilion Bordeaux was an absolute joy! Purple, deep, earthy to drink with a pleasant dry lingering taste. Very nice dinner wine!

Virginia Lightning Cherry Flavored Whiskey
The real stuff. Legal since 1988.
This blend of moonshine brought me back to 1980. Specifically, Vicks44. I couldn't drink it without thinking if the old cough syrup remedies. Yuck!
